Following the construction of the Karolina development project, a large number of Ostrava’s inhabitants began to use a pedestrian walkway leading from the new “Karolina” municipal tram station, a central point for entering the city. This led to a passageway from the House of Culture (Dům umění) becoming a connecting point between Ostrava’s new centre and historical centre, albeit this site lacked the visual punch necessary for such a role. Consequently, a new colour scheme now serves to welcome visitors into the historical part of the city by reflecting the rich atmosphere of Ostrava, as well as showcasing a work by young local artists.
This project is financed via the FAJNOVY PROSTOR grant subsidy programme. We gratefully acknowledge this support.
